About This Class

HIIT Inferno Hot Pilates (IHP) is a challenging, full-body, low-impact workout that combines high-intensity interval training with Pilates principles inside a heated room.

The method was founded in 2012 by Gabi Walters and is now taught in close to 200 studios across five continents. Gabi returns to Ubud Yoga Centre every July to train our instructors, so the teaching here is kept to the authentic Inferno standard.

The structure is the same every class, so you always know what is coming - but the exercises change, so the workout never goes stale.

What to Expect

  • The heat: a mat-based class in a room heated to roughly 36 - 37°C with controlled humidity - warm muscles, higher circulation and a heavy sweat.
  • The structure: a 60-minute session of timed intervals (Tabata-style, e.g. 20 seconds of work, 10 seconds of rest): bridgework, core, side body work, back extensions, then legs, cardio and upper body.
  • The movement: mostly bodyweight - burpees, mountain climbers, push-ups and squats - sometimes with booty bands or small weights, and without the joint pounding of running or jumping.
  • The breath: Pilates breathing - an exhale through the teeth that engages the pelvic floor and strengthens the core.

Common Questions

Am I fit enough for Inferno Hot Pilates?

It is designed for all levels and every exercise can be scaled, but it is challenging. Arrive hydrated and take rests whenever you need them.

Is it really low-impact?

Yes. The movement is mostly bodyweight Pilates and cardio without running or jumping, so it is easier on the joints than most HIIT classes.

Do I need any equipment?

No - it is mostly bodyweight work. Booty bands and small weights are used occasionally and provided in class.
