About This Class

Kundalini Yoga is often called the Yoga of Awareness: a comprehensive practice of postures, breath, meditation, mantra and music, meant to deliver a felt experience of vitality, clarity and inner balance by awakening the dormant energy at the base of the spine.

It is accessible to everyone - universal, non-denominational, and equally welcoming to beginners and to experienced practitioners of yoga or meditation. At its heart it works directly with prana, the body's life force, to organise mental, physical and nervous energy under the guidance of the will. In doing so it supports the glandular and nervous systems, helping you meet life from steadiness rather than stress.

Wherever you take a Kundalini class you will recognise the same clear, structured sequence of six core components.

What to Expect

  • Tune in: the mantra Ong Namo Guru Dev Namo opens the connection with your own inner wisdom.
  • Breathwork: pranayama and warm-ups prepare the body and the mind.
  • Kriya: a specific sequence of exercises and postures done with conscious breathing, sometimes with mantra.
  • Deep relaxation: lying down so the body and mind integrate the benefits of the Kriya.
  • Meditation: calming and focusing the mind with mantra, mudra and eye focus; breathwork is often part of it.
  • Closing: the class finishes with the 'May the Long Time Sun' song.

Common Questions

Is Kundalini suitable for complete beginners?

Yes. It is non-denominational, accessible to everyone, and you can join your first class with no prior practice.

I have never chanted before. Do I have to participate?

You are always welcome to follow along or simply listen. The mantra Ong Namo Guru Dev Namo is a way of tuning into your own inner wisdom, not a performance.

What should I expect to feel?

Most students notice a mix of deep calm and renewed energy afterwards. The practice works directly with the nervous system, so give it a few classes to feel the full effect.
